Lucy Poarch Smith, 84, of Gaston died Thursday, December 3, 2009. Mrs. Smith was a native of Skippers,Virginia and a life-long member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Gaston.

Mrs. Smith was retired from J. P. Stevens with 45 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Smith.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Virginia "Jenny" Wiley and her husband, Mike, of Gaston; her son, Walter "Bear" Rook, Jr. of Littleton; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Mullenix officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 5, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral and Cremation services in Roanoke Rapids.
